Motional

HOW MOTIONAL WORKS

Plan Support

Confident decisions. Meaningful support.

Safety first. Evidence-informed advice. Purposeful activities. Personalised Programs.

Understanding need is only the beginning. Motional helps practitioners turn insight into purposeful support by bringing together essential safety considerations, evidence-informed advice, purposeful activities and personalised Programs within one connected process.

Every recommendation is grounded in the same evidence-informed principles that underpin Motional, helping practitioners respond consistently while adapting support to each learner’s individual needs. Professional judgement remains at the centre of every decision, ensuring support remains purposeful, proportionate and responsive.

Safety First

Effective support begins with safety.

Before any advice or activity is considered, Motional encourages practitioners to reflect on the learner’s immediate needs, relationships and environment. These safety considerations help ensure support is appropriate, proportionate and delivered within a secure, trusting context.

Rather than treating safety as a separate step, Motional embeds it into every personalised Program. Practitioners are encouraged to consider emotional safety, trusted relationships and the wider environment before planning any intervention.

Support is most effective when learners feel safe.

Evidence-informed Advice

Effective support starts with informed adults.

Rather than offering generic strategies, Motional provides advice that reflects each learner’s emotional profile. Recommendations help practitioners understand why a learner may be experiencing difficulties and suggest practical responses that are compassionate, proportionate and achievable in everyday practice.

Advice is shaped by the same evidence-informed principles that underpin every Snapshot, helping practitioners respond consistently while recognising that every learner, relationship and setting is different. The focus is not simply on what to do, but why it is likely to help.

Professional judgement remains central. Motional does not replace practitioner expertise – it strengthens it. Advice provides a starting point for reflection, discussion and planning, giving practitioners greater confidence that their decisions are informed by evidence rather than assumptions.

Every recommendation is accompanied by practitioner reflections and references for further reading, enabling staff to explore the evidence, deepen their understanding and continue developing their practice over time.

Practical Activities

Purposeful activities. Meaningful interactions.

Every activity is designed to help learners explore emotions, strengthen relationships and develop the skills that support Emotional Wellbeing. Rather than existing as standalone worksheets or one-off interventions, activities are directly connected to the identified area of need and the accompanying practitioner advice.

Activities can be delivered with an individual learner, a small group or a whole class. Some activities are designed as standalone sessions, while others build learning over time through repeated practice or a sequence of connected sessions. This flexibility allows practitioners to adapt delivery to suit their learners, setting and professional judgement.

As the Motional activity library continues to evolve, every new and updated activity follows a consistent structure, providing clear guidance, practical considerations and adaptable delivery to support confident practice.

The aim is not simply to complete an activity, but to create meaningful interactions that strengthen relationships, build emotional understanding and support lasting change.

Built for Confident Delivery

Everything practitioners need in one place.

Our enhanced activity format provides practitioners with everything they need to deliver activities confidently. As the library evolves, this structure is being introduced across all new and updated activities.

Practitioners are supported with:

  • Purpose and intended outcomes
  • Step-by-step guidance
  • Key considerations
  • Resources required
  • Adaptations for different learner profiles and sensory needs
  • Discussion prompts
  • Success indicators
  • Practitioner reflections

Designed to be flexible rather than prescriptive, activities can be adapted to suit the learner, the setting and professional judgement.
Activities are not the intervention in isolation. They create meaningful opportunities for practitioners to apply evidence-informed advice, strengthening relationships and supporting emotional development through purposeful interaction.

Activities provide the context. Advice shapes the interaction. Relationships create the change.

Tailored Programmes

Bringing everything together in one personalised plan.

Every learner is different, so every Program should be too. Motional brings together identified areas of need, essential safety considerations, practitioner advice and purposeful activities into a single, personalised programme designed to support meaningful progress.

Rather than searching through extensive libraries of resources, practitioners receive evidence-informed recommendations that reflect each learner’s emotional profile. Every Program provides a strong starting point while recognising that professional judgement remains central. Practitioners can refine recommendations, adapt areas of focus and personalise support to reflect their knowledge of the learner and the context in which they work.

Programs can be used immediately or developed over time, providing a practical framework that supports consistent practice while remaining flexible enough to respond as needs change. Whether supporting an individual learner, a small group or planning targeted intervention across a class, programmes help ensure support remains purposeful, achievable and grounded in evidence-informed practice.

The result is a clear, personalised plan that helps practitioners move confidently from understanding need to delivering meaningful support.
