Measure Emotional Wellbeing
Every effective response begins with understanding. Measure Emotional Wellbeing through a consistent, evidence-informed process.
HOW MOTIONAL WORKS
Look beyond behaviour. Recognise emotional patterns. Respond with confidence.
Behaviour is often the outward expression of an underlying emotional experience. Motional helps practitioners move beyond assumptions and first impressions to understand the patterns, strengths and needs influencing behaviour, relationships and learning.
By connecting individual Snapshots with class-wide Groupshots, Motional helps practitioners recognise patterns that would otherwise remain hidden. Schools gain a clearer picture of Emotional Wellbeing, enabling earlier identification, more purposeful conversations and more effective support.

Behaviour tells us something. It rarely tells us everything.
Rather than reacting to behaviour alone, Motional helps practitioners understand what may be influencing it. Using an evidence-informed framework, practitioners begin to recognise the emotional needs that may sit beneath engagement, withdrawal, frustration, confidence, relationships and regulation.
By looking beyond what is immediately visible, schools move from responding to isolated behaviours to understanding the wider emotional experiences that shape how learners think, feel and engage. This creates more compassionate conversations, more purposeful decisions and more effective support.
Understanding behaviour through the lens of Emotional Wellbeing helps practitioners recognise strengths as well as needs, ensuring every learner is seen as an individual rather than defined by a single behaviour or moment in time.

Understanding begins beneath the behaviour.
Understanding the individual.
Every completed assessment is transformed into a Snapshot – a clear visual profile of an individual learner’s Emotional Wellbeing. Practitioners can immediately understand emotional strengths and areas of need across the three core Domains, with the option to explore the underlying Subdomains for greater depth and understanding.
A Snapshot brings together the assessment, visual profile, responses and associated programmes in one place, creating a complete picture of the learner at a moment in time. Rather than presenting scores alone, it helps practitioners understand the emotional experiences that may be influencing behaviour, relationships and learning.
By combining evidence-informed insight with professional judgement, Snapshot provides a strong foundation for planning personalised support while creating a meaningful record that can be revisited as understanding develops.

Every Snapshot captures more than a score - it captures understanding.
Understanding the group.
A Groupshot provides the same evidence-informed view for an entire class or group, helping practitioners understand the emotional landscape across multiple learners. Using the same Domains and Subdomains, practitioners can identify shared strengths, emerging needs and variation within the group while maintaining a consistent framework for interpretation.
A Groupshot also enables practitioners to explore the group in greater detail. Participants can be compared alongside group averages, while filters quickly identify learners meeting selected thresholds within individual Domains or Subdomains. This makes it easier to recognise patterns, identify cohorts with shared needs and target support where it is likely to have the greatest impact.
Whether reviewing a whole class or a targeted intervention group, practitioners can move seamlessly from group-level insight to individual understanding, ensuring decisions are informed by both the needs of the group and the experiences of each learner.

From group insight to individual understanding.
One observation provides a moment in time. Patterns provide understanding.
Every Snapshot contributes to a bigger picture. By bringing together responses across learners, classes and groups, Motional helps practitioners recognise recurring themes, shared strengths and emerging areas of need that may otherwise remain hidden.
Rather than viewing learners in isolation, schools begin to understand how Emotional Wellbeing is experienced across the wider setting. Patterns reveal whether a need is individual, shared by a group or emerging across a whole class, enabling earlier identification, more informed decision-making and more purposeful conversations.
This broader perspective helps practitioners move beyond responding to individual concerns and towards planning support that is evidence-informed, proportionate and tailored to the needs of learners.

Patterns turn information into understanding.
Consistent support begins with a shared understanding.
Because every practitioner uses the same evidence-informed framework, Snapshot and Groupshot provide a shared language for understanding and discussing Emotional Wellbeing across classrooms, pastoral teams and leadership.
Rather than relying on subjective descriptions or individual interpretation, conversations become more consistent, collaborative and focused on understanding need. This shared language strengthens collaboration, supports smoother transitions and helps ensure learners experience consistent support wherever they are.
Whether discussing a single learner, reviewing a class or planning support across a whole setting, everyone works from the same evidence-informed understanding. This builds confidence, improves consistency and helps ensure decisions are purposeful, proportionate and centred on the learner.

When understanding is shared, support becomes consistent.
Not every learner needs the same response.
Motional helps practitioners identify where support is most likely to make the greatest difference, enabling schools to prioritise intervention with confidence and consistency.
Whether planning universal provision, targeted interventions or individual support, decisions are guided by evidence rather than assumptions. Practitioners can quickly identify learners who may benefit from additional support, recognise shared needs across groups and target support where it will have the greatest impact.
By understanding both individual needs and wider patterns, schools can plan support that is proportionate, purposeful and responsive, helping every learner receive the right support at the right time.
